Dr. Ricardo García Navas urology unit treats all diseases related to the urinary-tract system and the adrenal glands in both men and women, this includes problems related to the space (retroperitoneum) where the kidneys, ureters, and adrenal glands are located.
Urology is also related to the diagnosis and treatment of urinary incontinence, nephrolithiasis, venereal diseases and oncology problems with the genitourinary system.
This unit specialises in benign urologic diseases and is highly focused on the diagnosis and treatment of male genital problems.
Andrology specifically refers to all problems and medical procedures related to the male reproductive system.
Within andrology we mainly see male sexual disorders, especially problems related to erections, and of course all matters relating to male infertility. Another important aspect of andrology are all of the techniques, both surgical or medical, focused on male contraception.
There are multiple causes that could be related to infertility.
The parameters we use to measure the spermatozoa are: sperm count, motility, morphology and function. Analysing the sperm volume and biochemical composition can also help us locate possible damage or the origin of the disease. Other tests, such as the fragmentation test or chromosomal abnormality detection in sperm, can help us identify any possible damage to genetic material (DNA) or spermatogenesis defects.
In the andrology unit we also perform hormone and genital analyses through ultrasound scans and physical examination.
Testicular biopsy is the preferred technique for cases of azoospermia or severe male factor infertility; with this technique we can find motile spermatozoa in the testicle and cryopreserve them for future use in an ICSI cycle.
A testicular biopsy is always accompanied by an anatomopathological study, which helps us understand the cause of the azoospermia and provides a prognosis as to the chances of finding spermatozoa.
